Moving on.....to academic year 2010-2011

Lucknow Literacy Foundation (formerly Aaghaz Educational Foundation) has been receiving 5-10 cases every week from the students who are on the verge of getting dropped out from the schools - due to financial conditions; in spite of various Government schemes announced by the center and state Government - they are yet to reach these students (or matter of fact to most of the needy students). These cases do require a physical verification (which is mandatory for any case that gets approved by us); and upon it's report the case gets funded by our foundation. The need of the hour is "requirement of Volunteers" who can do these surveys in areas such as Nakhas, Dubagga, Khurram Nagar, Thakurganj, and Rajajipuram. It takes only 15 mins - 30 mins to conduct one survey; we request members to participate and help this cause grow.

The following new cases were verified (& deserving) and sponsored during the last 20 days:

1. Sponsorship of 1 Girl Student (who was deaf & dumb) in St. Francis School for the Hearing Impaired, Thakurganj, Balaganj, Lucknow

2. Sponsorship of 1 Girl student in Exon Montessori School, Nakhas Branch, Lucknow (girl was a continuing student, whose parents got separated recently)

3. Sponsorship of a Boy Student in Brains Convent School, Yahya Ganj (Rastogi tola), Lucknow (this boy is a younger brother of the above girl)

4. Sponsorship of 1 Boy student in Al-Huda School, Triveni Nagar, Khadra, Lucknow

5. Sponsorship of 1 Girl Student in Karamat Gilrs Degree College for B.Ed Course

6. Sponsorship of 1 Girl Student in Shishu Shiksha Mandir, Rajendra Nagar, Lucknow

7. Sponsorship of 1 Boy Student in Shishu Shiksha Mandir, Rajendra Nagar, Lucknow

8. Sponsorship of 1 Girl Student in Eram Convent School, Kursi road, Lucknow

LLF looks towards you for both monetary and time contribution; for members who are based in Lucknow - please pitch in with your time, while others can help this cause grow by making donations (even the smallest donations can make a difference in the lives of these children).

Furthermore, please be liberal with your suggestions - as they form our guiding principles and helps in designing our systems.

Need Volunteers

LLF urgently needs volunteers, who can conduct physical surveys at the following locations in Lucknow: Nakhas, Dubbaga, and Nishatganj. The surveys help in determining the authenticity of the cases which we receive.

A volunteer can choose his/her own time and schedule to work with us.

About Ourselves – A Short Profile

For persons, who are not from Lucknow, I am attaching a short profile (brochure) of LLF. So far, we have restricted our activities in Lucknow area only, but Inshaallah soon, we will be starting our activities in Kanpur under Kanpur Literacy Foundation. This program has remained urban so far in outreach; hope in future we can tap the drop-outs in rural areas also.

Being managed and run by people like you and me – since inception its systems got tuned and refined by through inputs from members, experiences from visiting schools and understanding the student’s problems, and others mostly through judgemental errors. We invite and request all the members from our community to be part of this established support program – which has been helping the most deserving and needy students of our community “to stay in school”. What is our Goal ?

Lucknow Literacy Foundation (Formerly Aaghaz Educational Foundation) is operative in Lucknow for the past 6 years. It is a community driven programme aimed at eradication of illiteracy and empowerment of the minority community. Our focus is mainly on to help out the needy students especially dropouts who wish to pursue their studies despite their families’ financial constraints. Our main thrust is on nursery level of education and about 70% of our resources go towards these students and remainder to students pursuing higher level of education. We have so far helped over 2500 needy students and are currently supporting fees of 450 students studying in various schools aggregating around Rs.50,000/- per month.

How do we operate ?

We seek contribution from the community in terms of time, money, expertise, just about anything to create a pool of resources which, in turn, is used judiciously for the welfare of the community. In effect what we take from the community, give it back to the community. We have a committed brand of members who volunteer their time and resources in processing the applications, screening the candidates, monitoring their performances and conducting counseling sessions from time to time apart from handling other day to day operatives.

Our other distinguishing features:

· Our members are from different walks of life but united towards common cause.

· We have the support and patronage of all segments of Muslim community.

· Whatever funds are collected go entirely towards fees of students. No amount is spent on operative expenses, which is personally borne by the members.

· We are not Government aided / funded.

· We have no political interest / affiliations.

How can you associate with us ?

You have the option to become Donor member by contributing and committing a lump sum yearly payment or a General member making a monthly contribution.

You may also contribute your Zakaat money which will be channelized towards fees of students entitled to Zakaat.
