LLF will add 100 new students...

Lucknow Literacy Foundation will add 100 new scholarships for children who are studying in class Nursery through Class 12th from next academic session, this was decided during Foundation’s last meeting on Saturday (January 9, 2009) in the presence of all the members.

Be a Part of this Noble Cause

Be A Part of this Unique and highly successful community driven program...it is not just money you can help out with..your contribution through time and effort in finding out the deserving students and conducting surveys weighs more than who contributes through money. We will keep on posting the developments via this blog ...and thanks everyone for their support in keeping this going.

Part V - Who runs this foundation (formally) ?

All the members have equal say; the system is transparent and extremely democratic. We have a formal executive body who have no vested interest - as thanks God they are community leaders of Lucknow. All Job post of this foundation gets rotated once in a year or two as decided by the members through voting process. The foundation members meet at least once in a month to review and access the working of this body. There is No Political Mileage to be gained from this program and neither are we associated with one.

Part IV - How do you manage such a task with no full time workers ?

We all are busy, but if we manage to squeeze out just 1 hour / week, then this 1 hour/week can bring out dramatic social-economic reform within the community. We meet only once a week (on Saturdays only) between 11 AM - 1 PM in our make-shift office located in Hazratganj, Lucknow. This is our working office where in these 2 hours we get to meet the school officials (who come to our office to collect the fees of those needy students). Occasionally we get students also who have different set of problems, some have books problem, or some uniform problem...we try our best to help them out. Usually 4 - 6 members of this foundation are always present during these office hours.

Part III - Is this program sustainable ?

Well so far, thousands of students have benefited from this program. And presently, LLF pays tuition fees of 427 students on a monthly basis in 7 different schools of Lucknow. The program has never faced any difficulty in generating funds, but we were only short on hands, when doing surveys and so on. Hence the community understands the need of the hour and stands by such type of programs and initiatives.

Part II - How Lucknow Literacy Foundation (LLF) manages fund ?

Since this is a community driven program, whatever is collected within the community is dispersed to the needy students. We do not take any grants / aids from the Government; neither does LLF has any expenses - all the expenses are borne by the volunteers. All the payments made to the schools are via account payee bank cheque - hence our account books are clean as no cash payments are made to anyone. Anyone can verify/check the same at a any given time.

Part I - How Lucknow Literacy Foundation Works ?

LLF members have been active from past 5 years. They identify needy students from talking to school officials (focus is specially on those students who are on verge of getting dropped out) - upon whose recommendations, the survey is conducted by talking to student's parents. If the need is genuine, LLF immediately sanctions fund for their tuition fees (the money directly goes to the schools via an account payee bank cheque). LLF takes commitment for one academic year and upon review of student's performance, the fund is further sanctioned for next academic year.
